Measure the project
Use site dimensions and the appropriate trade unit instead of relying on a rough visual guess. Record measurements so the estimate can be checked later.
Calculate material quantity and waste
Start with the measured quantity, then add a reasonable waste factor for cuts, damage, overlap, touch-ups or job-specific conditions. Different products and layouts can require different allowances.
Estimate labor
Consider preparation, access, setup, installation or application, finishing and cleanup. Small difficult jobs can take more time per unit than large open areas.
Build the customer price
Add direct costs, overhead and profit. Clearly list allowances or exclusions when exact conditions are unknown.
